Position Chaplain

JOB DESCRIPTION

The volunteer hospital chaplain is responsible for leading a pastoral ministry for hospital patients, staff and visitors. He/she is required to cooperate with all medical staff at all times, providing assistance and advice as needed or requested. As volunteers will serve in the capacity as a spiritual liaison to the internal community and be available to provide spiritual care at the end of a patients’ life and also become first responder for a hospital crisis. A volunteer hospital chaplain is a member of the clergy; He/she will be will be responsible for providing a support system to patients, families and staff and to offer them with the love and compassion of caring and support. 

Educational Requirements

 

We are recruiting pastoral care volunteer clergy through the churches/schools. We are looking for ordained ministers that are willing to receive hands on training and it is our hope that they will continue their education in the field. A candidate must possess a license as a pastoral counselor degree/equivalent of training's. To become a pastoral care volunteer chaplain, a prospective candidate typically must possess a graduate degree in religion, theology, divinity or a related field of study. Additionally, he/she has to have met all qualifications to obtain her chaplain certification from an administering institution such as Healthcare Chaplain Ministry Association or the Association of Professional Chaplains.

  

Qualitative Requirements

 

To be successful as a volunteer hospital chaplain, a candidate must be comfortable working with people in times of distress and crisis. Additionally, he/she will be required to volunteer once a week with a two hour work shift during the day, but our services will be provided on, holidays and weekends. As he/she will be communicating with people from all walks of life, excellent interpersonal skills are imperative. The hospital volunteer chaplain must be an exemplary listener and communicator. We are requesting a one year commitment to this program.
